21st century classroom

Todays classrooms are set up different than classrooms of the past.  With all the knowledge that we have of children's learning abilities, classrooms are definitely changing shape.  In the current time, 21st century, we can expect a lot of things to be going on.  On the walls are word walls, posters, bulletin boards, etc.  There is most likely a "job list" for the children.  In one corner of the room there is a carpeted area that is used for story tellings and reading time.   A lot of books are on the shelves and centers are a must.  The children are sat in groups rather than scattered around the room so that the stronger students can assist the weaker ones. The teacher is not just standing in front of the room for the whole day, but instead is walking around throughout the day trying to make certain that understanding is being met, and also all learning styles are being met.

  1. I agree with you that the children are no longer going to be just sitting around in their chairs. We need to make the students get up and have things like stations and centers.

  2. Preach it brother! Centers are definitely becoming more prevalent, which is a great thing. Centers not only allow students to work and interrelate collaboratively, but they also allow teachers get out from behind their desks and interact with individual students on a more substantial level. Figurative high five!
