This week in class brought on a lot of great learning opportunity, starting with the writing strategies presentations. I learned a lot about writing. As a group, Kira, Emily, and I studied Interactive Writing. I definitely plan on using this strategy in my own classroom some day. Not only does it help the students significantly increase their writing ability, but also gets them up out of their seats and interacting as a class.
Another great thing that we learned was the process of experience-based learning for writing. One of my favorite activities was taking the students to a museum and having each student put together a little story for the day on what they saw. Then, take all the different stories and have the students keep journals on other events too.

Comprehensive Literacy

Last Wednesday in Language Arts, we had such a fine afternoon of learning.  We learned about so many different literacy words, and got assigned groups to work in.  In those groups, we must take our strategy and teach it to the rest of the class.  My groups topic is Interactive Writing.  I cannot wait to learn about it! =] Wooot

21st century classroom

Todays classrooms are set up different than classrooms of the past.  With all the knowledge that we have of children's learning abilities, classrooms are definitely changing shape.  In the current time, 21st century, we can expect a lot of things to be going on.  On the walls are word walls, posters, bulletin boards, etc.  There is most likely a "job list" for the children.  In one corner of the room there is a carpeted area that is used for story tellings and reading time.   A lot of books are on the shelves and centers are a must.  The children are sat in groups rather than scattered around the room so that the stronger students can assist the weaker ones. The teacher is not just standing in front of the room for the whole day, but instead is walking around throughout the day trying to make certain that understanding is being met, and also all learning styles are being met.
